Piotr Moncarz

Dr. Piotr Moncarz is an Adjunct Professor (emeritus) of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University and a Center Fellow at the Stanford Center for Sustainable Development and Global Competitiveness.  He has taught graduate classes at Stanford for over 35 years. 

Dr. Moncarz specializes in the study and prevention of engineering and scientific in nature failures and disasters. For over 30 years he was a Principal Engineer and Senior Fellow at Exponent Failure Analysis Associates, a leading failure analysis and prevention firm.  In 2017 Dr. Moncarz was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering of the United States. He has authored hundreds of publications, lectures and speeches.  Today, he serves as co-founder and Vice Chairman of XGS Energy, a venture-backed renewable energy company.

Dr. Moncarz is also co-founder and chairman of the US-Polish Trade Council (www.usptc.org), a pro-bono professional organization dedicated to the transfer of knowledge and the strengthening of co-operation between Poland and the United States. He is Vice President of the Board of the Polish Engineering Council of North America, and was co-organizer and co-academic director at Stanford University's Top 500 Innovators Program.
